The European Times News aims to cover news that matter to increase the awareness of citizens all around geographical Europe.

Ljupcho Kotsarev is chairman of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts. This is his analysis of the “millennial greatness” of our neighbors in the West, published by BGNES.

The title of today’s article “I Accuse!” Is taken from a letter published on the front page of the Zora newspaper on January 13, 1899, in which Emile Zola accused the French authorities of anti-Semitism, corruption and a rigged trial that Alfred unjustly condemned. Due to this commitment of the writer Zola, academician Luav Starova will write: “Until now, Zola was considered an important realist writer, but with his commitment to the Dreyfus affair, he became an intellectual. Thus, in French intellectual history, a distinction began between an intellectual and a writer, an intellectual and people with other professions. Thus one can be a representative of any profession in the spiritual realm, but not an intellectual.

Why did I decide on such a title? Never in the history of a country, including ours, or of a nation, including ours, has we seen what we see these days in Macedonia: a leader selling everything, even his ancestors, his descendants, grandchildren, great-grandchildren … and after all, and his party (which only seemingly trusted him) for the sole purpose of staying in power. It goes so far as to even write on behalf of the guarantors: “Between 14 December and 15 January is the period in which the General Affairs Council can be held. This is an opportunity to move forward and finally, after 16 and a half years. , let’s start negotiations. “

By the way, have you ever wondered what these words actually mean? Isn’t this again a ruthless lie and political manipulation, like the news of March 24, 2020, which can still be read on the Foreign Ministry’s website, according to which Macedonia is “starting EU membership talks: 15 years from now” waiting in these difficult times, the test of the success of our efforts has come from Brussels. “

If it is not a question of lying or manipulation, is this not an even more terrible and insidious step, is it not already agreed and the last, fateful blow against the Macedonian identity?

In this context, I want to emphasize one thing: external bulldozers can clean up even a little bit, but that cannot change the fact that the Macedonian language has existed for more than a thousand years and it is “our only homeland” that unites all Macedonians. in the state of Macedonia, as well as those in the Pirin and Aegean parts of Macedonia, and those in the diaspora, unless we ourselves change this from within.

Adam Smith, known as the father of economics, otherwise head of the Department of Moral Philosophy at the University of Glasgow, emphasizes MORAL PHILOSOPHY, in 1776, 245 years ago, wrote: “Our traders and producers are, and should not be the rulers of mankind. “. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to us. Concerned by current events not only as a citizen of our country, but above all as a member of the temple of science and art, who is socially obliged not to remain silent and not be blind to reality, I urge you to do everything against this madness, with reason , through the appropriate legal institutional framework of a democratic society. I urge you to do everything possible to prevent Macedonia from disappearing.

Let the Ohrid Literary School, established in 886, not disappear! Let the Macedonian spiritual universe not die, let MANU, UKIM and MOC not die! I invite you to unite !!! Let the traders and producers do what they know and what they should do, but definitely NOT to lead Macedonia. We survived almost everything to be sold off and so we became “northern Macedonians”, deprived of our history, our collective memory, our cultural and identical attributes. There is no more Macedonian Macedonia!

For years, Macedonia has been a “captive state” – a term that implies partisanship of institutions in a country. To clarify, I would like to refer to the two writers George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The first in the book “1984” and the second in the novel “The Brave New World” visionarily predict what our civilization could turn into. Orwell fears a “captive civilization” in which information will be manipulated, while Huxley fears a “trivial civilization” in which people will be flooded with unnecessary information. The book “The Captive Mind” (Czeslaw Milosz) is a study of the “breaking of man by two personalities” under the influence of the enormous ideological pressure of the then USSR (the book was written in 1951). But even the pressure of Western liberal democracies on a captive state, where information is either manipulated or completely meaningless, can lead to captive minds. This is exactly what happened in Macedonia.

“What good is it for a man who has conquered the whole world, but has lost his soul !? Is there anything more precious than your soul?” (Mark 8: 36-37)? What will be the benefit of our accession to the EU if we lose our soul, if we lose the Macedonian language, our history, collective memory, culture tours and identical attributes? Should we talk about the current events in Macedonia or remain silent? Which way should we take? “Two roads split in the woods and I (I chose the one who travels less.) And that made everything different” (Robert Frost).

Thus, the path we must choose for the EU must be a path paved with principles, and our accession and entry into the EU will be worthy only if the Macedonian language, which has existed for more than a thousand years, is spoken not only in Macedonia, but and in neighboring countries.

According to Confino, intellectuals are characterized by the following characteristics: (1) deep concern for problems and issues of public interest – social, economic, cultural and political; (2) guilt and personal responsibility for the state and solving these problems; (3) a tendency to view political and social issues as moral issues; (4) a sense of obligation to seek at all costs extremely logical conclusions in thought and in life; (5) the belief that things are not as they should be and something must be done. “Probably referring to our native historian Michael Confino (1926-2010), who taught at leading universities in Israel and the United States. Therefore, not every spiritual or thinking person is an intellectual.

The same is true for any representative of any profession in the political sphere, but not an intellectual. And it is precisely the huge lack of politicians in the country who are also intellectuals, which is a major obstacle to the healthy development of a country, led me, in the spirit of Zola’s letter, to end today’s article with a few accusations.

I accuse him of treason, betrayal of Macedonian principles, shallowness, ignorance, short-sightedness, self-destruction, lack of vision, love of power, selfishness, injustice, lack of sense of geopolitical strategy, activity against state interests.

I blame the disintegration of Macedonia on all grounds, on all fronts.

I blame the enslaved Macedonia, the democadenized Macedonia, the fact that they betrayed Macedonia voluntarily, out of pleasure, for a handful of dollars, for an unreal dream, for an illusion, for a “higher goal”.

I blame the big lies, the decisive betrayals and the empty promises that made our lives pointless, idealess, unreal, anxious, upset, depressed, confused, desperate.

I blame the murder of the Macedonian family, the Macedonian name, everything that is Macedonian.
