The actor has invested in a company aimed at nature conservation.
Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio is investing in innovative companies that aim to protect nature. The actor, who is an environmental activist, has invested in the Israeli company Alef Farms, which has developed bioengineering technology for raising meat from livestock cells. The startup has already cultivated beef steak and entrecote and is preparing to send the technology into space with the second Israeli astronaut, Eitan Stibe.
DiCaprio has also invested in other innovative companies in Israel, including the construction of an environmentally certified hotel in Herzliya.
This is not the first time he has shown interest in meat cultivation, as he is among the investors in the company Mosa Meat in the Netherlands.
Cultivated beef production has the potential to reduce air pollution and protect land and water resources, which are used on a huge scale in meat production.
“One of the most effective ways to combat the climate crisis is to transform the food system. Mosa Meat and Alef Farms offer new ways to meet the demand for beef, while offering solutions to some of the existing beef industry. It is a pleasure for me to join them as a consultant and investor, “said the Hollywood celebrity. He joins the supervisory board of the Israeli company.
