The peculiarity of people with anxiety disorder is that they perceive everyday events as a threat
U.S. psychologists at the University of Chicago have found that watching horror movies can help people with anxiety disorder (a state of constant anxiety that lasts for months and even years), according to the school’s website.
Such an approach to improving the emotional state is explained by the fact that when waiting for something scary, a person instinctively tries to escape from the source of discomfort. When the danger disappears, a relaxing reaction occurs and the body returns to its normal state.
The peculiarity of people with anxiety disorder is that they perceive everyday events as a threat. Therefore, they cannot calm down and achieve harmony.
Horror films provide an excellent opportunity to develop the described mechanism in a safe environment.
Watching horror movies also helps to train the psyche. Thanks to them, one understands that the causes of anxiety are often invented – just like the monsters on the screen.
