A terrible tragic incident in Ghana few days ago! The bus of the first division Berekum Chelsea was attacked by masked gangsters who opened fire. The 20-year-old striker Dominic Frimpong was hit in the head and later died of his wounds in hospital.
The team was returning from a trip to Samartext. The driver tried to get through the siege, but was met by gunfire. Together with the players and coaches, he tried to escape into the bushes.
The reason for the attack is unknown. The Ghanaian federation promised that it would talk to the government to increase security on the club buses to avoid similar incidents. “This tragedy is not just a blow to Berekum Chelsea, but to all of Ghanaian football,” the bosses wrote. “Dominic was a great talent.”
In 2023, Ghana saw a similar incident, but with a bus in Legon City. However, the gangsters did not manage to kill anyone then.
