The Talibans have banned music and smoking in all hotels and restaurants in the northeastern province of Badakhshan, the local news agency Voice of Afghanistan reported today, quoted by TASS.
In addition, cohabitation of women and men and non-observance of the schedule of Muslim prayers is prohibited in these sites.
According to the head of the provincial information and culture department, Muazadin Ahmadi, the decision was agreed with the new ministry of the Islamic call. This ministry is an analogue of a body that performed the functions of the moral police during the Taliban rule in 1996-2001.
In the northern province of Balkh, the Taliban have already banned smoking and watching television, and in southern Kandahar, women have banned radio and television broadcasts and music. The newly established moral police also introduced new rules for wedding ceremonies in the country, where live music cannot be performed, and women and men must be in separate rooms, TASS reported.
