Scientists from Novosibirsk accidentally created a vodka that does not cause a hangover while trying to make a cure for diabetes, writes the site Lenta.
Nikolay Baranov and Oksana Afanasieva developed a preparation based on deer moss, which is part of the food of reindeer. This plant has the ability to remove toxins from the body.
Scientists began dissolving the oligosaccharides obtained from the moss in various liquids, including vodka. The resulting drink retained its alcohol content, but did not cause a hangover. The new vodka reduced its post-intoxication effect by as much as 20 times, the toxic effect of alcohol dropped 2-3 times, reduced the rate of alcohol dependence.
However, scientists intend to focus on studying the properties of deer moss to correct metabolic disorders in diabetes. As for the production of vodka, which does not cause a hangover, it will be a matter of the future.
Only vodka can be considered to be that which is made from rye or wheat alcohol of the highest distillate (96-98 degrees, unlike, for example, whiskey, which is made from much weaker alcohol), diluted with spring or artesian water in a ratio of 40 to 60, exclusively by weight and not by volume.
Connoisseurs know that real vodka is made only in Eastern Europe – Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Poland. Some include Finland in the list, but not everyone agrees. According to true connoisseurs, all other vodkas, no matter how expensive and with whatever advanced technologies they are produced, are not the same.
