Reconstruction is expected to begin in about a year.
The strengthening of the structure of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which was damaged in a fire in April 2019, has been completed. According to AFP, a tender for the selection of companies that will participate in the restoration of the cathedral should be announced soon.
The fire at Notre Dame caused shock in France and around the world. Tearful Parisians and stunned tourists gazed in disbelief while the inferno raged at the cathedral, which marks the centre of Paris.
Architects have already selected about a thousand centuries-old oak trees in French forests to restore the Notre Dame tower. Experts plan to begin reconstruction in about a year.
After a wildfire that lasted more than 15 hours, French President Emmanuel Macron issued an order to restore Notre Dame within five years. However, this deadline is unlikely to be met.
The cathedral will be restored to its previous design, including the 96-metre (315ft) spire designed by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in the mid-1800s and for which new timber has been selected.
