On Friday, September 17, at 8:00 am, 236 polling stations were opened in the Altai Republic, of which 22 are in the capital of the region – Gorno-Altaysk.
Residents of the village of Zhana-Aul in the Kosh-Agach region of the Altai Republic arrived at the polling station on camels and horses. Photos were published by the press service of the regional government.
“Voting also takes place in remote settlements of the republic. For example, in the village of Zhana-Aul in the Kosh-Agach region, located almost on the border of Russia with Mongolia, there are just over 500 registered voters – mostly representatives of the Kazakh ethnic group. Here, local residents arrived at the polling station in national costumes, riding camels and horses, ”the regional government’s website says.
Residents of the region elect deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Also in the region, there are additional elections for the State Assembly deputy – El Kurultai in constituency No. 25, elections for 11 heads of rural settlements, as well as deputies of district and village councils in a number of municipalities.

On the first day of the election, Russian astronauts aboard the ISS also voted.
Russian cosmonauts Oleg Novitsky and Pyotr Dubrov, who are aboard the International Space Station (ISS), voted in the State Duma elections, TASS reported, citing a press release from Roscosmos.
“Members of the Russian ISS crew cast their ballots on the first day of the election,” the statement said.Dubrov voted through a trusted person on Earth, Oleg Konenko, deputy head of the Cosmonaut Training Center, and Novitsky took the opportunity to vote electronically.
