Camels and Men – 4000 years of collaboration

As is known, camels are one of the largest representatives of the terrestrial fauna. Once upon a time on the Asian continent, hunting their wild relatives was a common activity /both the meat and milk of the animals are quite tasty/. And more than four millennia ago, man domesticated the first camels, using them to this day mainly for transport purposes through the deserts. But recently, there have been many attractions with them.

Once upon a time in the United Arab Emirates, as well as in other Arab countries of the Persian Gulf, camel races were no more than folk entertainment. And now they have already turned into major competitions, from which some people even win. For example, camels are given special food rations, jockeys are professionals, and organizing competitions is a whole art. Patrons are famous sheikhs – they come to the place of the competitions by helicopters. The trainers watch the races on television screens and give instructions to their men.

Striving to preserve and maintain even the little that remains of the Bedouin customs, local bosses throw millions of dollars into the arrangement of the racetracks, the prizes for the winners, and the training of the camels.
