Romania’s Development Minister Ceke Atila announced the closure of tens of thousands of positions in local and state administration. In an interview with Antena3 TV, he announced that about 57 percent of the number of positions, or nearly 6,000 people, will be cut, including advisors to mayors, deputy mayors and state secretaries.
“Of the 10,700 positions in the offices of local elected officials and high-ranking officials, from the prime minister to the state secretaries, almost 6,000 positions are being cut. Mayors will now have one advisor, not two, as before. For deputy mayors, the position of advisor is being abolished. Likewise for state secretaries. Currently, ministers have four advisors, I will propose that they be three. For the prime minister, five instead of eight,” the politician explained on air. He added that there will also be job cuts in the police.
The reform is part of the second package of fiscal and budgetary measures of the government of Ilie Bolozhan. At this hour, the parties in the ruling coalition are meeting to determine its final version.
