The Minister for Finance and President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, will travel to Madrid today Monday 7th February for a series of bilateral meetings.

Minister Donohoe will meet with his Spanish Eurogroup counterpart Nadia Calviño, Vice-President of Spain and Minister for Economy and Digitalisation. The focus of the meetings will be the euro area economy and the Eurogroup’s key priorities, including the economic governance of the European Union, the next steps in completing Banking Union, and the future of the digital euro. Minister Donohoe and Vice President Calviño will hold a joint press conference following their meeting. The press conference will be broadcasted here at approximately 14:45 CET.

He will also have a joint public conversation with Vice President Calviño at the Royal Elcano Institute, Spain’s foremost international affairs think-tank, to discuss the opportunities that lie ahead for the euro area in the context of the recovery. For more information on the event, please visit the Elcano Royal Institute website (no registration required).

“I look forward to meeting with Vice President Calviño in her capital. These discussions with Eurogroup colleagues are vital in allowing for strong coordination of economic and fiscal policies. The benefit of this coordination can be seen in the stronger than expected economic recovery, with 5.2% GDP growth estimated for the euro area in 2021. Spain was the first country to receive a disbursement from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, highlighting its effective implementation of reform and investment in greening and digital policies.
