The blades of the legendary Moulin Rouge cabaret have been repaired

The blades of the windmill of the legendary Moulin Rouge cabaret in Paris are spinning again – more than a year after they fell, AFP and DPA reported. Late on Thursday, the cabaret celebrated the reactivation of the windmill with a dance show in front of the theater. On Instagram, the Moulin Rouge hinted at the surprise, inviting the public to join in “for a truly unforgettable moment.” “Here’s a little hint: they are red, iconic… and ready to dazzle you,” the post read.

The official tourist information service of Paris – Paris Je t’Aime, uploaded a post on its Instagram account showing the spinning windmill.

The blades just fell

We recall that about 14 months ago, on the night of April 25 last year, the windmill of the world-famous Parisian cabaret theater fell from the roof onto the sidewalk. Initially, the cause was unclear, but sabotage was ruled out.

“Fortunately, this happened after closing,” an anonymous employee of the Moulin Rouge said at the time. “Every week, the cabaret’s technical teams check the windmill mechanism and have not noticed any problems.”

Soon after, another windmill was quickly installed.

“The Moulin Rouge”, which celebrated its 135th anniversary last October, is the oldest cabaret in Paris and one of the emblematic landmarks of the French capital.

The building still shines in its sinful red, although the days when it symbolized frivolous Paris are long gone.
