Russian Railways sells Moscow railway station, cultural heritage site

The state-owned company “Russian Railways” has put up for sale the Riga railway station in Moscow, citing the company’s sales and lease details, RIA Novosti reports. “For sale: Riga Railway Station in Moscow. The buildings of the Riga Railway Station in Moscow are offered for sale to investors.

The station buildings have not been used by passengers for a long time, which opens up the possibility of adapting them for new purposes. The starting price is 4,009,265,260 rubles (about 55 million dollars),” the materials say.

Anastasia Kotkovskaya, First Deputy Head of the “Corporate Property” Department at “Russian Railways”, announced that the starting price for the Riga Railway Station for the auction is a little over 4 billion rubles. The published information states that “the sale of the property depends on the results of the auction.” The time of the auction has not yet been specified.

The sale at the announced price includes: the building of the Riga railway station, built in 1901, with a total area of 3900 square meters; a two-story non-residential building, built in 1929, with a total area of 3800 square meters; and a plot of land with a total area of 13,700 square meters (which will be leased to the new owner).

Kotkovskaya earlier noted that the Riga railway station has not been used by passengers for some time, as new conditions and facilities have been provided for them. “Build with cultural heritage objects and fully functional ones,” the tender announcement says. Russian Railways also explains that this is “an ideal solution for investors looking for stable, long-term income.”
