Six EU-Funded Projects Receive the 2025 RegioStars Awards in Brussels

The RegioStars awards have emerged as a prestigious recognition of excellence for EU-funded initiatives that exemplify the impact and inclusivity of regional development across Europe. This year’s contenders feature a diverse array of projects, including efforts to mitigate carbon emissions in peatlands in the Atlantic Area, the introduction of electric shared cabin taxis on railway tracks in Germany, a virtual library in Lithuania designed for individuals with print disabilities, and a modern ecological shopping center located in Belgium.

Among the highlighted projects, the AGEO initiative, which focuses on managing geohazard risks in the Atlantic region, received two accolades, including the Public Choice Award, which was determined by nearly 2,000 votes.

The winners of the 2025 REGIOSTARS Awards are as follows:

**A Competitive and Smart Europe**

This initiative utilizes satellite radar imagery to deliver accurate and dependable monitoring of crop growth through the development of mineral fertilization maps, thereby improving precision agriculture techniques.

**A Green Europe**

AGEO unites scientists, local communities, and governmental entities to tackle geohazards in the Atlantic region, employing citizen science, Earth observation, and innovative risk management strategies. The project showcases methods for empowering local populations to participate in early warning systems and address climate-related challenges.

**A Connected Europe**

This project features a gyro-stabilized monorail cabin system that offers an individual, autonomous, and on-demand transport solution, serving as a flexible, socially responsible, and sustainable feeder for public transit.

**A Social and Inclusive Europe**

This initiative provides complimentary psychosocial support for women following childbirth, ensuring their well-being by linking health and social services to deliver comprehensive care for postpartum distress.

**A Europe Closer to Citizens**

This project creates a shared space aimed at fostering a prosperous, peaceful, and cohesive future for women and families from both Protestant and Catholic communities in the region and beyond.

**Public Choice Award**

**Background:** The RegioStars Awards, organized by the European Commission since 2008, honor projects that are supported by Cohesion policy and demonstrate significant impact and inclusivity in regional development, addressing shared challenges faced by EU regions. A panel of experts from across Europe selected 25 exemplary finalists in five critical areas, each highlighting a priority of the EU’s regional policy. These finalists were invited to deliver their final presentations before a jury during the 2025 European Week of Regions and Cities, held in Brussels from October 13 to 15.
