89-year-old Woody Allen is not wanted in his homeland, the United States, after accusations by his stepdaughter Dylan and his ex-wife Mia Farrow. He lives and works as an exile in Europe, although the court has not found him guilty. Now, a new wave of hate is expected for the winner of four Oscars.
The author of “Annie Hall,” “Manhattan,” “Hannah and Her Sisters,” “The Purple Rose of Cairo,” “Matchpoint” and “Midnight in Paris” will be a guest of honor at the Moscow Film Week – a state-sponsored event, also featuring Emir Kusturica. The festival’s website announced Allen as its “headliner,” part of the “Legends of World Cinema” program.
Allen will not go to Russia – he will join via video link at 5 p.m. Moscow time for a lecture-conversation in which he will share “thoughts about cinema and life, inspiration, choice and honesty in the profession.”
According to the organizers, participants will be able to peer into the “inner world of the director” and learn how stories are born that have remained in the culture for decades. The moderator of the discussion at the Moschino studio will be director Fyodor Bondarchuk.
The news of his participation has been spread only in Russian and Ukrainian media. There is no confirmation from the director’s agent. Woody Allen has been a cult figure in American cinema since the 1970s, winner of 4 awards and 24 Oscar nominations for his more than 50 films.
Moscow Film Week continues from August 23 to 27 with the participation of over 80 foreign guests from China, India, Turkey, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Mexico, writes “Pravda”.
