Turkish Gendarmerie Seizes Over 62,000 Liters of Counterfeit Alcohol

A total of 62,600 litres of counterfeit alcohol were seized and 121 suspects were detained by the Turkish Gendarmerie during a specialized operation. It was carried out in all 81 districts of the country over the past two weeks. This was announced by Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya in a post on the X social network.

“The production of counterfeit alcohol is not only a crime, but also a trap that threatens public health,” Yerlikaya also wrote in a post on the X network on 5th of August. More than 150 people have died as a result of consuming counterfeit alcohol since the beginning of 2025, according to data from the Turkish Ministry of Interior. Despite the measures taken by the Turkish authorities, the problem of consuming counterfeit alcohol remains one of the main ones in Turkish society.
