Hollywood actor and director Mel Gibson is on a pilgrimage to Mount Athos, where he arrived on 28th of June.
He is among the Orthodox monastic community on Mount Athos in northern Greece, where he is expected to stay for the next few days, reports Kathimerini.
The 69-year-old star is in the Serbian Hilendar Monastery, where he will participate in the daily liturgical services, several religious websites report.
According to the Hilendar Foundation, Gibson participated in the vigil together with the brotherhood.
“I have never felt such a strong connection with God anywhere, as here,” the Hollywood actor, who is a deeply religious Christian, admitted to the monks.
The director of “The Passion of the Christ,” who was criticized and isolated for his reading of the story of Christ, was very warmly welcomed by the brotherhood of monks.
No other details are known about his stay in Mount Athos, except that he will spend a few days at the Serbian Royal Lavra. Gibson also took many photos, hugging the monks in the monastery.
