On Thursday, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) unanimously elected Victor Negrescu (S&D, Romania) to take over the role of Quaestor from the departing Monika Beňová (Non-Attached, Slovakia).

Mr. Negrescu was the only candidate for the position. According to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, a new Quaestor is appointed to fill a vacancy in the current order of precedence, making him the third Quaestor in Parliament.

The College of Quaestors, which consists of five members, is primarily tasked with overseeing administrative and financial issues that directly affect MEPs. The aim is to ensure that the composition of the Bureau—which includes the President and Vice-Presidents, with Quaestors serving in an advisory role—reflects the relative sizes of the various political groups within the Parliament.
