Europe Day : 9 May is the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the foundation of the EU. In 2022, it also marks the end of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
The closing session of the Conference on the Future of Europe in Strasbourg will crown the year-long journey of gathering and debating with citizens their ideas on how the EU should handle its challenges and opportunities. The final report will be submitted to the presidents of the European Parliament, Council and Commission to help shape the EU’s future agenda. Watch live from 2pm CET on 9 May.
The aim of the Schuman Declaration was to secure long-term peace in Europe. In the wake of the Ukraine conflict, events for this year’s Europe Day will underline the EU’s commitment to peace, as well as universal values, like freedom and democracy, and demonstrate unity and solidarity with Ukraine and its people.
The European institutions are inviting people to a wide range of online and on-site activities in EU countries and other parts of the world. Debates, discussions, a radio show and social media lives will focus on the work ofthe EU institutions, while concerts and cultural events will highlight the EU spirit.
Parliament will organise activities for the public in Brussels on 7 May and in Strasbourg on 15 May. Events kick off at 10am CET.
