Tests will be conducted initially
Roscosmos announced that it entrusts the security of the newest Russian spaceport “Vostochny” to robots. The space agency has signed a contract with the private company “Android Technology” and the Foundation for Advanced Research, which will offer its platform “Marker”.
Tests will be conducted initially. If the robots do their job, they will be “hired”. The requirements for the machines are:
• Autonomous patrolling of certain routes for protection of the terrestrial space infrastructure facilities;
• identification of violators of the security perimeter and their interception;
• counteraction to terrorist acts, fight against unmanned aerial vehicles.
“Marker” works in both radio-controlled and autonomous modes. The robots can ensure the safety of spaceports, businesses and other sites of national importance, “said Dmitry Rogozin, CEO of the state corporation Roscosmos.
The creators of “Marker” will test 5 versions of it – 2 wheeled and 3 tracked. The team also works on the possibility of autonomous movement in a group.
To solve the set tasks, the Marker is equipped with a camera module and is armed with a machine gun and a set of small-caliber missiles.
