MEPs will quiz EMA Executive Director Emer Cooke on the latest developments regarding COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics in the EU.

In light of rising COVID-19 cases across the EU and concerns raised by new variant, MEPs debated last week developments and next EU steps in combatting the pandemic. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) called for urgent public health measures in combination with continued efforts to increase vaccine uptake. Moreover, the Commission proposed to strengthen coordination of safe travel in the EU, while President von der Leyen reiterated the need to step up vaccination.

On Tuesday 30 November, Emer Cooke, Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) will update Members of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee on the situation around COVID-19 vaccines (including reviews, authorisations for paediatric use and boosters), as well as recent developments in COVID-19 therapeutics and the general epidemiological situation in the EU.
