French director Julia Ducourne’s “Titan” won the Palme d’Or at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
The chairman of the jury in Cannes prematurely announced the winner of the “Golden Palm” – the film “Titan” by French director Julia Ducurno. The awards ceremony at the 74th Cannes Film Festival began where it should have ended after jury chairman Spike Lee mistakenly announced that the biggest award, the Palme d’Or, was won by the French director’s film Titan. Julia Ducourne, the Associated Press reported.
If confirmed, Ducourne will become the second female director to win the Palme d’Or, after Australian Jane Campion with “The Piano” in 1993.
The announcement of Titan as the winner of the Palme d’Or was followed by shouts and confusion, but Ducourne did not take the stage to accept the award. The ceremony continued with the presentation of other awards, and Spike Lee was seen sitting clutching his head.
31-year-old American film actor and musician Caleb Landry Jones received the award for best male role. He was honored for his role in Australian director Justin Kurzel’s Nitram.
Norwegian actress Renate Rainesve won the award for best female role. She played a young woman in a crisis period of her life in Joachim Trier’s film “The Worst Man in the World”.
