Each of the 19 countries in the euro area designs its own version of the coins. One side is common, showing the map of Europe and the value of the coin. The flip side is specific to the issuing country and features a landmark or a symbol of that country.
Special €2 coins are issued periodically to mark important moments. These can be country specific or refer to EU events.
