Great honor for Bulgaria, and for our diploma Dimitar Tsanchev. We wish him success!

Today, the High Representative for Security and Foreign Affairs Josep Borel announced the appointment of the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the European Union Dimitar Tsanchev as Head of the EU Delegation to Israel.

Dimitar Tsanchev will take over the mission on September 1 this year.

This may be an allusion to Bulgaria’s unique example of the strength of civil society in times of crisis – saving the entire Bulgarian Jewish community of more than 48,000 from extermination during the Holocaust. Led by the royal family and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, the Bulgarian people did not allow the eviction of their foreign and non-religious compatriots in the gas chambers of the fascists.
