Russia is actively discussing the issue of simplifying the procedure for obtaining citizenship for a number of foreign citizens. More details – in the material.

More than 667 thousand foreigners received Russian citizenship in 2021, which is almost 20% more than a year earlier, Sputnik reported from Tashkent.

The data was provided by the head of the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia, Valentina Kazakova.

“The number of foreign citizens acquiring Russian citizenship is steadily growing. Over the 11 months of this year, this figure exceeded the figures for 2020 by 18.6%, in absolute terms it is more than 667,000 people,” Kazakova said.

According to her, most applicants acquire citizenship in a simplified manner, that is, they have a close relationship with Russia.

For example, these people have relatives in Russia, or they belong to the category of compatriots most adapted to Russian culture.

Earlier, President Vladimir Putin promised to work on the issue of simplifying the procedure for obtaining a passport for Russian-speaking citizens.

In October, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also spoke on the topic of obtaining Russian citizenship by foreigners. He suggested automatically giving a passport to those born in mixed families where at least one of the spouses has Russian citizenship.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is now actively developing a new law in the field of migration.

Sputnik. In Russia, foreigners may be subject to restrictions on changing their place of residence.

This was told by the head of the Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) of Russia Valentina Kazakova.

According to her, now the department is developing a new law in the field of migration.

It provides for a new mechanism for controlling the stay of foreigners in Russia: administrative supervision.

Within its framework, a special law enforcement regime “controlled stay” will be introduced.

“Controlled persons will be subject to restrictions on the right to change their place of stay without the consent of the controlling body, the obligation to periodically appear at the body that established the regime of controlled stay, or to confirm their presence in any other way, including in electronic form,” Kazakova said.

In addition, instead of two independent procedures for removing foreigners from Russia (administrative expulsion and deportation, which exist today), one procedure will be introduced – “expulsion”.

The institution of “undesirability of stay” will be applied to foreigners who are outside Russia or whose whereabouts are unknown.

Earlier, the Ministry of Internal Affairs developed a draft law on the procedure for expelling foreigners suffering from dangerous diseases from the country. The list includes 16 viruses: COVID-19, plague, cholera, tuberculosis, HIV, anthrax and others.
