Several people rushed to the polls yesterday, Sunday 23/01/2022, in Portugal, with the fear of being in quarantine on the day of the election (30/01/2022).
Portugal broke the record of daily cases the day before yesterday (22/01/2022), with 58.530 people testing positive for COVID-19.
Many relevant political figures, including the Prime-Minister and Secretary-General of PS António Costa, Livre’s list-head for Lisbon and founder of the party Rui Tavares, and the communist parliamentary group leader João Oliveira voted today.
In the previous legislative elections only 50.000 people signed up to vote early.
The Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said that he had “hope” that the Portuguese people would join en mass to early voting.
