In Brazil, a court recognized the right of dogs to compensation for moral damages caused by the owner, writes “O Antagonista”. The trial took place in the state of Paraná. In the course of the proceedings, two dogs, a six-year-old golden retriever named Spike and a three-year-old pointer named Rambo, along with their advocates, were granted “interested party” status.
Therefore, the animals claim moral compensation in the amount of about 2,000 reais.
The case is related to an incident that occurred in August 2020. The police received a report of dogs that have been left unattended for a long time. Arriving on the spot, the police found them hungry and exhausted. It turned out that at that time their owner was on vacation.
