Nearly 1.5 million Greeks benefited from the charitable activities of the Greek Orthodox Church in 2024, which, through its volunteers and charity structures, spent nearly 128 million euros on charity.
The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, which concluded its November session, heard from the Synodal Commission for Social Assistance the report on its charitable initiatives over the past year.
According to the commission’s data, in 2024 the Archdiocese of Athens and the Metropolitanates of the Church of Greece provided 127.703 million euros, as well as 2.72 million kilograms of food of various kinds. The amount is higher compared to 2023, when the Church allocated 119.3 million euros.
Also, the number of people who benefited from its assistance in 2024 reached 1.45 million, while in 2023 they were 1.29 million.
The total number of church charity structures amounted to 4,190, and the volunteers participating in their activities were 14,934 people.
