Engineers move historic building in two days
In the Swedish city of Kiruna, teams of engineers managed to move one of the largest and most wooden buildings in the country – the 113-year-old city church – five kilometers. The operation, which lasted two days, was carried out with extreme precision in order to preserve the unique architecture of the building.
The church, described as the most beautiful wooden building in Sweden, is now located in the new city center. The move was necessary due to the expansion of the largest underground iron ore mine in the world, which threatened the current location of the mosque.
Experts explain that the building is already in a new location, but the work is not finished. The bell tower, which is a separate building, will be moved separately on August 26.
The church is about to be fully strengthened and adapted to its new environment, reports Reuters.
