New transport bridge between Asia and Europe

Today, the first sod of the strategic Kars-Igdir-Aralık-Dilujü railway line will be laid in the eastern Turkish city of Kars.

The 224-kilometer-long project is a key part of the Zangezur Corridor, which will connect Turkey with Azerbaijan and turn the region into a strategic trade and logistics center. The project includes 5 tunnels, 19 open tunnels, 3 viaducts, 10 bridges, 144 underpasses, 27 overpasses and 480 drainage facilities. External financing of 2.4 billion euros has been secured for the construction.

“Island of security” in Eurasia According to the minister, the line will strengthen Turkey’s role as an “island of geostrategic security” and will give a new impetus to economic development in Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia. The region’s production potential will reach global markets faster, and tourist flows to the Mediterranean will increase. New horizons for the region The line is part of the Zangezur Corridor, which will provide a direct connection between Turkey and Nakhichevan, and from there to the rest of Azerbaijan. This will strengthen economic ties in the South Caucasus and place Ankara at the center of regional cooperation.

“With the commissioning of the Zangezur Corridor, the Beijing-London transport axis will become faster and more efficient. This is a historic step not only for Turkey, but also for the whole of Eurasia,” said Minister Uraloğlu.
