Average private sector salaries in Greece last year were 1,362.66 euros gross, up 20 euros from 2024, while the average full-time salary increased to 1,516 euros from 1,478 euros a year earlier (up 38 euros), writes Ekathimerini.com.
Overall, one in three workers earned less than 1,000 euros gross per month in 2025, while six in 10 earned up to 1,200 euros.
In fact, the significant increase in the minimum wage in recent years has led to noticeable changes among workers earning salaries up to 1,500 euros. Therefore, while 61% of private sector employees received between 801 and 1500 euros in both 2024 and 2025, those receiving salaries between 800 and 1000 euros gross decreased by 46% in 2025 compared to the previous year, while employees with a salary between 1001 and 1500 euros increased by 54%.
As can be seen from the annual data of the Ergani system (extracted from the analytical periodic declarations of employers), in Greece very small enterprises are the vast majority, with 88% or 267,245 employing between one and ten employees. The number of these companies has actually increased by 2805 enterprises (+1.06%) in one year.
In total, enterprises that have employees under private-law employment contracts amount to 304,568, while in their branches – in different regions from their headquarters – they reach 355,509.
The number of employees under private-law employment contracts amounts to 2,460,720, which is an increase of 70,563 people or 2.95% compared to 2024. An indicator of the size of enterprises in the Greek economy is that only 10 companies have 3,000-4,000 employees (compared to nine in 2024), while another 19 companies have over 4,000 employees. 1.7% of all enterprises with over 50 employees represent 47.24% of the total number of employees.
The largest group (750,113 or 29%) are employed in 937 enterprises, each of which has over 250 employees. This is followed by 681,535 employees (26.30%), who work in 35,910 enterprises with 10-49 employees. There is also a significant number of workers (395,485 or 15.26%) employed in very small enterprises with up to four employees.
