Bulgarian authorities have arrested a Russian, the owner of the cargo ship that caused the powerful explosion at the port of Beirut in 2020, Bulgarian National Radio reports, citing its sources in the security services.

They identified the Russian as Igor Grechushkin. According to the information, he was detained on September 6 at Vasil Levski Airport in Sofia, where he arrived from Cyprus.

He is currently being held in pre-trial detention.

Grechushkin is wanted by Interpol and this came up when his documents were checked by the Bulgarian border authorities.

The explosion on August 4, 2020 at the port of Beirut took the lives of more than 200 people and injured over 6,000 others.
