Maserati workers on social assistance refuse to go to Kragujevac

According to the FIM CISL trade union, total production at the Modena factory amounted to just 45 cars, with employees spending the rest of the time on paid leave (cassa integrazione) with incomes of around 1,200 euros a month.

As a temporary solution, the company proposed last month that some of the Modena workers be temporarily transferred to Kragujevac, where mass production of the new Fiat Grande Panda model is currently underway. The offer for the workers includes a net salary of 1,700 euros, a bonus of 1,000 euros per month, paid accommodation, food and a daily allowance of 25 euros, as well as a return home to Italy every 45 days. The FIOM Modena union categorically opposes this initiative, assessing it as “humiliating and unacceptable”. The workers have made it clear that they are not ready to leave their families and homes for temporary income. “I will not go to Serbia. I will not be expelled from my city. My life is here,” one worker told the Gazzetta di Modena. Not a single employee has accepted the proposed transfer to Serbia, the publication notes.
