RIA Novosti reported from Paris that 300 foreign mercenaries are to leave Libya in the coming weeks, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

“300 foreign mercenaries are preparing to leave Libya. This is a necessary start that makes the political process that we have been talking about for a long time credible … These mercenaries will leave Libyan territory in the coming weeks,” Macron said at a press conference following the International Conference on Libya in Paris

An international conference on Libya was held in Paris on November 12. It was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, head of the government of national unity of Libya Abdelhamid Dbeiba, acting German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, US Vice President Kamala Harris, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, European Council President Charles Michel, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell and others.

Russia was represented at the meeting by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The decisions of the Paris conference on Libya confirmed the phased and synchronized formula for the withdrawal of foreign military from Libya, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“With regard to the withdrawal of foreign military groups, armed forces and so on, the decision that has been made today, it confirmed the formula contained in the final document of the Berlin Conference in July this year and the formula that just a couple of weeks ago, the military committee of the Libyan parties, the so-called “5 + 5” wrote down in its decisions: the conclusion must be complete, while it must be carried out in stages, gradually and necessarily synchronized with regard to those who support the West of Libya and support the East, “Lavrov told reporters following an international conference on Libya.

The minister added that it is very important not to upset the balance on earth.

“It is this balance that has made it possible to maintain the ceasefire regime for more than a year. And if it is violated now, the risk of a resumption of hostilities… of course, will worsen,” the Russian Foreign Minister specified.
