Walt Disney is frozen – the legend that started from a bad joke

Some time ago, we introduced you to future plans to build a perfect utopia that, for the first time, could solve some of the major economic problems that remain and could hardly be overcome in the presence of so-called capitalism. Of course, plans for futuristic cities are not new, most artists and designers show their bold ideas, but there is one person with enough opportunities who can realize his project – Walt Disney. His idea of a city of the future has attracted a significant number of fans, but today it is not at all at the height we have already seen. The project started in 1966 and is considered the so-called “Experimental Prototype of Tomorrow’s Society”.

It was never intended to be an amusement park, because Walt wanted to present a project for the cities of the future, and the main mission is to make this creation like nothing else in the world. Unfortunately, a little later that year, this artist will die and the project will be frozen, then the space will be freed and the last dreams of the king of animation will perish. Conducting such experiments can be found with the first settlers in the new continent, since the territory is huge, the experiments are more than welcome. Of course, hardly anyone expected that great success would be achieved from the very beginning, it takes time to shape the infrastructure, create the roads and much more.

In 1966, Disney released a video in which he explained for about 25 minutes what the vision for the future was and what it would look like. The plans are aimed at creating 68.8 square kilometers in downtown Florida. This territory will not follow Disneyland’s plans, but will be a completely independent project. The idea is that this area will allow the development of a city that will be twice the size of Manhattan Island and about 5 times larger than the original Disneyland. Walt’s plans are to house about 20,000 people who will be able to enjoy a better industrial and civilian lifestyle. In addition, they will enjoy innovative infrastructure, better internal control buildings and laws.

The development of the city will continue with the allocation of several kilometers of space for the creation of an office park, where new technologies will be tested, which will later be able to be tested in each building. Disney points out that, for example, new designs for refrigerators can be developed and after the completion of the project, the residents of the future city will be the first to receive them. The developer plans to sign contracts with every airline in the world and allow guests to visit the city, and for their visit there will be special places to rest, as well as a complex of 30 floors, which will provide a variety of entertainment, including weather protected area.

Wealthier residents will be able to afford to live in luxury apartments on the upper floors of the building, while everyone else will be provided with large parks for recreation. Most importantly, Disney plans to eliminate unemployment, and the plans do not include the creation of nursing homes for retirees. Most importantly, the main commitment will be to seek solutions to the problems of the future, especially those that arise in the future.

In the 1960s, we found that more and more Americans began to worry about the quality of life, looking for different solutions to improve the quality of the city, but since most cities did not keep pace with industrial growth, the solutions rejoice harder. It is logical that at the birth of such problems come new cases – crime, poverty, lack of places to rest, traffic jams, meanwhile most families are beginning to move to the outskirts. However, decisions are needed, which cannot be implemented by the management, no matter how many proposals come along this line.

One of the few interesting solutions are in the form of so-called small houses, which give the minimum quality of life. Even then, there was talk of future projects, new cities and all the other interesting popular opportunities. There are many announced projects, as local businessmen start building and then sell at very reasonable prices. The case in this case is that the new cities come with a new movement. By the time the Disney project began work, the Irwin company had already managed to develop a city and accommodate about 300,000 people.

The practice is noticeable elsewhere. Entrepreneur Robert Simon sold Carnegie Hall and then bought acres of land to build a farming town outside Washington that would be named Reston. About 25 kilometers from this location we will find that James Rousseau plans to build Columbia, Maryland. Oil tycoon George P. Mitchell is awaiting the introduction of a new federal program that will allow the creation of new cities – his project will be named Woodland and will be located near Houston – today the population there is about 100,000 people.

The aim of the new cities is to alleviate those already built. But here comes the big difference, Disney does not want to create relief, he wants to build independence, another utopia that he can finance and build using his own funds, and the value of the project itself will not bother him at all. Most importantly, the management of this territory will be centralized and in his hands. Something that one cannot ignore is the complete ban on cars entering the city. They are being replaced by the most modern underground form of transport.

Cars can enter the city, for which purpose they will be accommodated in an underground parking lot, while trains will transport visitors to a certain point. The trains will develop serious speed and will not worry at all about the final facts and proposals. And yes, we see the same idea today, but with the difference that Disney sees the future back in the 1960s, and we doubt that it has decided to use a vehicle in which its inhabitants will collide like cattle. Disney really was able to change the history of the world and create something that will remain forever, unfortunately with his death all investments end.

However, we will find that some wealthier individuals continue to pay designers to continue working on the process. In addition, Walt’s brother Roy is also one of the people who pay. In the 90’s we will find that such a city is really completed by his corporation. He never works on the basic intended plans. It is called “Celebration” to indicate the new movement of the modern urban way of life. Designs and architectures are chosen that can illustrate what the future will look like. The transport system does not exist, as well as the technological hub, this project is just a very impressive opportunity that can show the possible possibilities, but they themselves did not happen.
